A friend of mine Alia AlMoayed has her own radio show which I got to be a guest on.  Her show is called Dare to Be Healthy on World Talk Radio. She has had some great inspiring guests on her shows discussing all things from health, nutrition, natural therapy, pregnancy, parenting and much more.   Her last episode was with Dr. Lee Hausner who is the author of a book called Children of Paradise.  Her interview really struck a cord with me and I have already jotted down the titles of her books to purchase on amazon.  I wanted to share this interview with all the parents out there who at times feel like pulling their hair out! It’s alright .. our kids do not come with manuals and instructions; but we do have some great people to learn from and there is an abundance of parenting books out there to help give us guidelines.  I have always said that universities and colleges should introduce parenting 101 courses along side public speaking and accounting!! All those college kids will be parents one day and have courses and seminars will only help them and us be better at our jobs, which is just as important if not more than a corporate job.

Dr. Lee Hausner is a senior managing director of First Foundation Advisors. An internationally recognized clinical psychologist and business consultant, she served as the senior psychologist for the Beverly Hills Unified School District for 17 years in addition to establishing a reputation as a highly regarded keynote speaker and seminar leader. She has been a top rated resource for Young Presidents’ Organization for the past 17 years. A frequent guest on national radio and television, quoted expert in national publication such as the Wall Street Journal, Time, Forbes, Fortune, Town and Country and a contributing writer for Worth magazine, she is the author of the seminal work regarding wealth and the family, “Children of Paradise…Successful Parenting for Prosperous Families.”

Dr. Lee Hausner : Successful Parenting for parents who want to give their children the best of everything yet they are often sadly disappointed with the results as they witness young adults who are poorly motivated, irresponsible, financially demanding and troubled. Parents are perplexed about how to deal with their success in order to be able to provide the right environment, opportunities and “coaching” so that their children will develop into emotionally healthy, competent, responsible adults. Building Strong Self Esteem; Establishing realistic expectations;Creating competency and confidence; Effective communication; Managing parenting time and energy effectively; Bratproofing; Financial parenting… and much more.

Every mom know’s whether you’re a first timer or have had a few kids, that a lot of stuff is required! And all that stuff needs a bag to organize it all in. There are a few things that I like to start researching in advance to see what my options are.  A diaper bag is an essential item and picking one can be quite tricky! There are soo many options and styles out there which can turn it into a daunting task.  This is my third pregnancy, which means I have had my share of bags.  My first pregnancy I came across a company called Petunia Pickle Bottom and I ordered the boxy diaper bag my only issue with it at the time was that it was fabric so it wore out fast (that was 7years ago so I am sure they have different types now).  My second pregnancy I bought the Fleurville diaper bag, not one but two (mother ship bag and lexie tote matching)!! This bag was awesome and loved it and 3 and a half years later it still looks great and will continue to use it as an extra bag.  This time I have come across a great company recommended by a few family members.
Ju-Ju-Be is a great company. Ju-Ju-Be™ was started by the dynamic duo of diaper bags. See below for who they are. Why did they start up a whole new brand? Because despite the great fashion (and even some great features) of the other brands, there were still some things lacking. No one had put to use the latest in technology. No one had successfully acted on the idea that fashion and function aren’t mutually exclusive. No one else had delved into the deep realm of microbes and anti-stick coatings. Everyone else says that diaper bags aren’t rocket science. We think they can be. Along with being a lot of fun
“Super cute. Super fun. Super functional. It all started with a simple idea about a diaper bag, and it’s gotten pretty crazy since then. But we haven’t forgotten what’s important…making the best diaper bag in the universe!..”
Even the press has been raving about their bags. Matt Damon was spotted carrying a Ju-Ju-Be dad bag. Click here.
I have fallen in love with one of their bags, the BeFabulous (earth leather brown). Not only is it a practical bag for baby but very trendy for mama! A bag that doesn’t look like the generic diaper bag, more like a leather satchel which means I won’t need to carry a handbag and it won’t clash with my clothes.
Ju-Ju-Be have a great line for dads too!!

Finally our Grazia shoot at Al-Areen is out!! It’s taken many weeks to hit the shelves due to all the problems in Bahrain but alas it is here now!!  It was a fun morning with Nichola from Grazia, Wafa Alobaidat and Aysha Mattar.  We got to get real up close and personal with the animals and had tons of laughs!! Looking foward to happy days again in Bahrain; after a storm there’s always a rainbow.

Grazia:  “Blogging has become the social reference for any woman who’s serious about fashion.  Within minutes of walking down the red carpet, starlet’s gowns are scrutinized and given thumb’s up or down by bloggers the world over.  Grazia spent a morning at the Al Areen Wildlife Park with three local fashion bloggers to see how their sites have been received in Bahrain.”

This looks like a great health movie similar to Food Matters & Food Inc. I am looking forward to when this get’s released on May 6th 2011!! Here is the preview for you to watch!

Click here to learn more about the movie.

Here is what it is about:

What has happened to us? Despite the most advanced medical technology in the world, we are sicker than ever by nearly every measure.

Two out of every three of us are overweight. Cases of diabetes are exploding, especially amongst our younger population. About half of us are taking at least one prescription drug. Major medical operations have become routine, helping to drive health care costs to astronomical levels. Heart disease, cancer and stroke are the country’s three leading causes of death, even though billions are spent each year to “battle” these very conditions. Millions suffer from a host of other degenerative diseases.

Could it be there’s a single solution to all of these problems? A solution so comprehensive but so utterly straightforward, that it’s mind-boggling that more of us haven’t taken it seriously?

FORKS OVER KNIVES examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the so-called “diseases of affluence” that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods. The major storyline in the film traces the personal journeys of a pair of pioneering yet under-appreciated researchers, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn.

Dr. Campbell, a nutritional scientist at Cornell University, was concerned in the late 1960’s with producing “high quality” animal protein to bring to the poor and malnourished areas of the third world. While in the Philippines, he made a life-changing discovery: the country’s wealthier children, who were consuming relatively high amounts of animal-based foods, were much more likely to get liver cancer. Dr. Esselstyn, a top surgeon and head of the Breast Cancer Task Force at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, found that many of the diseases he routinely treated were virtually unknown in parts of the world where animal-based foods were rarely consumed.

These discoveries inspired Campbell and Esselstyn, who didn’t know each other yet, to conduct several groundbreaking studies. One of them took place in China and is still among the most comprehensive health-related investigations ever undertaken. Their research led

startling conclusion: degenerative diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even several forms of cancer, could almost always be prevented—and in many cases reversed—by adopting a whole foods, plant-based diet. Despite the profound implications of their findings, their work has remained relatively unknown to the public.

The filmmakers travel with Drs. Campbell and Esselstyn on their separate but similar paths, from their childhood farms where they both produced “nature’s perfect food”; to China and Cleveland, where they explored ideas that challenged the established thinking and shook their own core beliefs.

The idea of food as medicine is put to the test. Throughout the film, cameras follow “reality patients” who have chronic conditions from heart disease to diabetes. Doctors teach these patients how to adopt a whole foods plant-based diet as the primary approach to treat their ailments—while the challenges and triumphs of their journeys are revealed.

Check out these amazing wearable pieces of Art by artist Kobi Levi.  Each design can take  up to weeks to make by hand and the 36 year old artist doesnt want his shoes to just be sculptures but actual wearable shoes.  The price of these wacky shoes have not been disclosed but we can only imagine the amount of time it takes to make them and the material involved can only sum up to them being very expensive.

Would you wear them?
