Camilla Skovgaard introduced her new collection to the press and public at a gallery in NYC.  She did this without models, shoes or pictures, she did it with her very first fashion film Hotel Skovgaard Room 77 directed by Ali F Mostafa.  Camilla Skovgaard’s shoes are not your typical shoes.  With a cult like following her shoes are fierce, powerful, ruthless and will take no mercy.  That is exactly what you can expect from her film.  It is not for the faint hearted just like her designs and will leave you feeling a little uneasy.  It’s either them or the innocent girl who walks through. It takes you to a very dark place and dares you to be drawn in.  It’s everything Camilla Skovgaard alludes; goth, fantasy, dark, eccentric, and phantasm. Everyone is possessed and almost blood thirsty like zombies and vampires and the movie zaps you  and grips you till the end.  “The film shows that there is beauty through darkness”,“style-wise we worked with Camilla’s brand, which is anti-superficial. Her style is so… avant garde. We tried to go through that route.” says Ali to Bullet Magazine.  Celeb followers like Kristen Stewart, Gwenyth Paltrow, Charlize Theron am sure will be mesmerized by this fashion film which has captivated NY fashion followers.

Alwan 338 was an event conceived by Alriwaq Space that took place during Bahrain’s Spring of Culture Festival.  It brought back so much colour, smiles, beauty, inspiration and HOPE to Bahrain.  It’s no denying that we have been stuck in quick sand since the events of last year.  Alwan338 was a breath of fresh air and reminded everyone of not only the essence of Bahrain but also of the talented people on it’s soulful island.  Block 338 was transformed into a little art haven.  It felt like our piece of “SOHO” “Greenwich Village”.  Every nook and corner had something you wanted to look at.  Bohemia was the heart of the exhibition, a rundown building turned into a walkthrough gallery of over 20 artists.  The facade of the building had been brightened up by the creativity of Sara Kanoo with her concept of the bicycles. The Park was a beautiful extension to the concept.  Sara Kanoo did an amazing job creating tables, benches and other stuff from recycled material and the little rustic cafe gave you a sense of the “old” Bahrain serving Karak Chai and other simple local yummies.  It was lovely to see my brother’s film City of Life by Ali Mostafa got to be chosen as one of the movies to be screened at this lovely event. There was movie screenings, children events, live music, workshops and lots of lots of ART to be a part of.  I wish Bohemia could remain as it is, an open structure for artists and youth to use to express themselves creatively and for it to be open to the public to enjoy.  Luckily in November Market 338 will be taking place so we’ll get that vibe back in Block 338.  A while back I got to pick the brain of the lovely lady behind the concept of Alwan- Bayan Kanoo.

This month was the launch of the new Range Rover Evoque with Ali F Mostafa as the Ambassador for the Middle East.  Ali not only directed and produced the short film Classified which is a series commissioned by Land Rover but he also acted in the ad he created for the launch (mashallah).

“The all-new Range Rover Evoque has the Power of Presence – as Ali F Mostafa found out when he took one for a spin on the streets of Dubai.”

I love the ad Ali did for the Evoque and I am not saying that because he is my brother 🙂 Below is the  Tv Ad of the New Range Rover Evoque where the Range Rover Evoque hits the streets of Las Vegas amid plenty of chaos.

Which do you prefer ? 😉

I say the one filmed in DUBAI !! 😀

Luxury automotive manufacturer Land Rover is proud to announce its partnership with Emirati Film Director and Producer, Ali F. Mostafa, who will become a brand ambassador for the launch of the much anticipated Range Rover Evoque in the MENA region.  Mostafa is the first Emirati to write, co-produce and direct a multi-lingual feature film made exclusively in Dubai – ‘City of Life’, breaking box office records for an Emirati film.

The exciting collaboration, which kicks off this month, will involve Range Rover working closely with Mostafa to support the launch plans for Evoque, the newest edition to the Range Rover line-up. The Evoque will be the smallest, lightest and most fuel efficient model to date when it goes on sale at the end of the year.

The collaboration with Mostafa is part of the unique global Range Rover Evoque launch strategy to partner with ‘City Shapers’ from the world of fashion, design, music and film, who have helped shape the cities they live in. The campaign, which has touched every corner of the globe from San Paolo to Shanghai, is designed to engage and generate buzz and excitement amongst Evoque target audiences, and communicate the Evoque’s unique urban and stylish credentials.

”Ali Mostafa is a pioneer within the Emirati film industry. Coupled with his unique creativity and style, he is the perfect ambassador for our Evoque launch campaign. We are thrilled to be entering into such an integrated partnership with someone who is so passionate about the city that he grew up in, and has a deep connection with the people living here. The Range Rover Evoque has received an overwhelming response so far and we hope to continue this growing excitement across the region through our partnership with Ali.” said Robin Colgan, Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover MENAP.

Dubai-based Mostafa is the first Evoque City Shaper to be selected in the Middle East region. The collaboration will provide a unique level of integration between Range Rover and Mostafa. This will give Mostafa the chance to incorporate his personal creativity and filmmaking expertise into every element of the communications campaign to ensure a fully integrated and truly unique collaboration that engages consumers both on and offline.  As an Evoque ambassador, Ali will also drive his own personalised Range Rover Evoque, make appearances at prestigious events from motor shows to film festivals, and engage in social media activation across his own channels as well as Range Rover’s dedicated sites and blogs.

Ali Mostafa commented “I am honoured to be working with such an iconic brand as Range Rover to communicate the launch of the Evoque in the region. When I heard what Range Rover was doing with the new Evoque, the decision to get involved was straightforward to me on many levels.  As I prepare for the shoot of my next film later this year, I have gladly taken the time to collaborate with Range Rover on this exciting and unique campaign.”

It’s always great to see people from the Middle East succeed and make it in Hollywood!  Mohammed Al Turki is the new kid on the block from our neighboring country Saudi Arabia who is a producer, actor and philanthropist.  With a good number of movies under his belt this fellow arab is moving fast forward.  It’s about time we get to see people from our region making their mark.  What we hope to see more of are movies that represent our region as well, such as CITY OF LIFE by director Ali Mostafa and his new movie that he is working on amongst other projects.  Well done Mohammed on your success in Hollywood.. looking forward to hearing about more of your projects and philanthropic work that is crossing borders.
Here is a little more info on Mohammed Al Turki:
Of Middle Eastern descent, and born in Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Al Turki has recently caused a famed frenzy of interest as an entrepreneur, personality, producer and actor in the town he now calls home – Hollywood.
Adored by his LA counterparts, Mohammed has very quickly positioned himself as Hollywood’s ‘new boy in town’, found and papped working and socialising with many of the industry’s finest. Fashion and music royalty have also taken a liking to the fascinating young man from Saudi Arabia; his undeniable rise in profile has not only presented a shining talent so impressively representing the Middle East region, but also, successfully breaking cultural barriers between ”East and West”.
It all began (and continues) with a sincere passion for films, this drove a determination to solidify his place in the US film industry as a producer, and actor. His first film, “The Imperialists Are Still Alive” was chosen as ”Official Selection” in Sundance 2010. It won “Best Film” both at the Warsaw Film Festival and The Asian American Film Festival. The film also received much talked about national and international media recognition, and praise. His second film endeavour, ”The Harrowing”, in which he stars, is a reality-based horror story based on a group of young people trapped in a haunted mental asylum, with CCTV cameras filming the cast’s every move. ”The Harrowing” is due for release in the fall of 2011.His latest projects include “Arbitrage”, which is expected to bring together an all-star cast, and, most recently announced during this year’s Cannes Film Festival, a Ramin Bahrani production starring Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron. As well as fulfilling his dreams in film, Mohammed Al Turki continues what is a family legacy in international philanthropy. He remains dedicated in his support of various charities including the Elton John Aids Foundation, amfar AIDS Research and many more. His father, Abdulaziz Al Turki, an admired figure in Saudia Arabia, is recognized for his charitable efforts as the Founder and President of the Saudi Cancer Foundation, Chairman of the Saudi Charitable Foundation for Promoting Organ Donation and The Saudi Annual Charity run. Indeed, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, with Mohammed supporting and contributing to most of his father’s local charities too
