Whenever there is such a high calibre event taking place, other than the international designers, I get so excited to see which regional GCC designers get to shine and show their talent.  VFDE have chosen some smoking hot designers from the region and one of them is our very own Bahraini Lulwa Al Amin!!

Lulwa Al Amin was born and raised in Bahrain, and graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2009 with a BA in Textile Design. The brand, which is based in London, was founded in 2010, and Lulwa launched her first collection in 2011.  Lulwa’s design are feminine, graceful and beautiful but what stands out the most is the intricate and sometimes bold prints and patterns.  All the prints are hand painted before being applied to the fabric and the collection she will be showcasing at VFDE is inspired by India.  Below is an exclusive picture to this blog of the beautiful Maharani dress.  Thank you Lulwa for sharing and giving us a sneak peek into your collection.  I can’t wait to see the whole lot.

Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience (VFDE)  takes place on October 10th The Dubai Mall.  The fashion shows will be held at the Fashion Catwalk in the Fashion Avenue where eight international designers will showcase their latest collections, as well as a gala dinner attended by international celebrities.  Lulwa Al Amin is one of four Gulf talents to be featured in the event and we are super proud!!!

Stay tuned for an upcoming interview with Lulwa Al Amin ..

I am very very sad to say that unfortunately after all the INGLOT O2M madness, that it turned out not to be quite what it seemed.  I am gutted! It may sound a tad dramatic, but I as soo excited to finally be able to wear nailpolish without worrying about my salaaat.  I was totally convinced by what they marketed and said how it is created from a polymer similar to contact lenses; so to me it made complete sense. I wore it for months without a flinch and now I feel awful.  I didn’t even consider testing it, until I started to notice others testing it and it was coming up negative.  I wanted to believe so bad that for me it would work, which is why I didn’t do an itty bitty patch test but a massive patch and put a lot of water and massaged it in for a while etc.. (maybe if I get the time I will post my own test online) but sadly it didn’t pass the test at all! In hindsight I should have tested it before buying a massive stock of O2M.. oh well.. Just when fashion week came to an end you thought you could kick off your heels and take a breather.  There is so much fashion happening this month of October in Dubai, that you better jot them all down in your calender.

Starting on the 10th is a spectacular fashion affair and a first of it’s kind by Emaar that is taking place at the Dubai Mall,  ‘VOGUE FASHION DUBAI EXPERIENCE’.  The evening – brainchild of Mrs. Franca Sozzani, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Italia, and Mr. Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman of Emaar Properties – will offer fashion shows, exhibitions, interactive events, celebrity appearances and, of course, plenty of shopping opportunities.  It’s not all just about the glitz and glam but also for a good cause to promote education in developing countries through Dubai Cares.  Read the rest of this entry »

Pure Spa Reception

I was invited the other day by Kempinski to try one of their massages.  I chose their signature massage called Bio-harmonising Aroma Massage which was lasted an hour of relaxing bliss.  The massage is perfect if you’re looking to unwind, relax, recharge. The infusion of the aromatherapy oils uplift your mood and make you feel balanced.  That was exactly what I needed!! A well over due pampering session and I couldn’t have been happier.  The minute you step into the reception area of the spa, you immediately leave your stress in the elevator and welcome the tranquility and peace of your surroundings.  The beauty of the Kempinski spa is that it is in Bahrain City Center.  You can shop, have a spa time with a friend and then go have dinner and catch a movie; all without even leaving the vicinity.   Read the rest of this entry »

What a fabulous evening at the opening of the much awaited shabby chic concept store, Pachachic! It was shabby chic heaven, and the more you browse the more you keep finding hidding treasures in a store full of floral, vintage inspired goodies.  I am so proud of my dear friends/family Nouf and Fajer Pachachi, you two have done a fabulous job bringing your dream to reality mashallah! When you walked into the mall, the floor was covered with little Pachachic signs to follow the path that led you to the elevator which had the coolest decal for even the novice selfie shooter.  Once the lift doors opened there were a few more signs to follow that led you to an area with a beautiful buffet of yummy treats, lemonades, juices and savories.  Tables and chairs were spread out for people to just sit back and enjoy the afternoon and elephant photobooth was there shooting the guests with shabby chic props galore.

I came across this online via Dubai Confidential and thought to give it a shot!   I am always on the look out for ID tags of all sorts for my kids whenever we go on holiday.  There is always that fear what if they get lost in a busy mall, amusement park etc. .. You may think your older child will know what to do, but when you’re on holiday we all then have new mobile phone no.s of the country were in and we can’t expect kids to memorize a handful of no.s every time we travel.  So ever since my now 10 year old was a toddler to this day.. I make him and my other 2 kids always wear ID tags.  I have use so many different types form bracelets, velcro straps etc .. It gives me that little piece of mind knowing that they have contact info on them incase of any scenario.   Read the rest of this entry »

W By Walla is by a talented local bahraini designer and I was lucky enough to get to be behind the scenes on the set of her S/S14 lookbook shoot.  The collection is called ‘Reflections’ and her inspiration came from her own land, our island.  The colour palette she chose symbolize eastern shades of sand revived by deep emerald, striking turquoise and a pop of orange, emphasizing the sophisticated charm of the collection.
